Una de las artes más desagradecidas es sin duda la de coleccionar palabras para hacer con ellas un texto. Ser escritor en una sociedad que tritura palabras, que cambia la forma de comunicar tan rápido que apenas nos da tiempo a percibir que, cuanto decíamos hace una hora, ya está obsoleto, es desolador. Escribir es un oficio solitario y cuando no tienes éxito, que no talento, todavía más. ¿Quien quiere un yerno escritor, o un novio que escribe, que no llega a fin de mes, que tiene la cabeza llena de pájaros? Ser escritor es, sin duda, el oficio menos práctico que conozco, y lo sé porque es el mio.

Hace poco, al inicio de esos días de suelta que el régimen nos ha dado, salí a pasear con mi mascarilla en el bolsillo y sin guantes. Vivir alejado de muchos, con espacios abiertos, y sin apenas gente permite ciertos lujos, como es el de disponer de más espacio. En ese paseo acabé encontrando una pequeña pila de unos quince libros cerca de un contenedor. Algunos de ellos pertenecientes a una colección de la editorial Planeta y otros de editoriales diversas. Entre ellos encontré uno de Manuel Vázquez Montalbán: El Balneario. ¿Quien tira a la basura un libro de Montalbán? Si hasta Agostinelli creo en Italia un personaje llamado Montalvano que fue llevado elevado a televisión.

Los recogí los limpié y ahora descansan en un separador de mi biblioteca hasta que formen parte de ella. ¿Qué sera de mi como escritor? Si Montalbán estaba en la basura ¿Dónde acabaran mis libros, los pocos que he vendido?
